I think the words “addiction” and “disease” are incorrectly used. When a person is a fat slob that does not clean their house, that is a conscious choice. When a person says yes to another piece of cake, they don’t have a disease. They just want more cake. People choose to be fat, to smoke, to drink, to do whatever brings them pleasure.

Even though Avatar is a good, fun movie, I do think it is walking all over superior movies. Frankly, I think District 9 is a better movie, in terms of leaving a lasting impression and being a moving experience. Even the special effects of District 9 are better because you rarely think about them. They blend effortlessly into the shots. Avatar is all in your face with the CGI. To paraphrase Family Guy, Avatar insists on itself.

Hilarious show and I’m not even done listening yet! Just wanted to say a few things.

Mike: I agree with you that in general, live action special effects are more real-looking than CG special effects in many cases. I disagree that Avatar sucks. That movie is tits! Ok, so the story isn’t so original, but honestly how many movies have an original story anymore (as you’ve often lamented)? Like Dances With Wolves was the first time they ever used that story? It’s probably straight out of Shakespeare and even he probably ripped it off from the Bible or something. But I’ve never seen a movie that blew me away in the theater like seeing Avatar in 3D did. I couldn’t understand how it was possible to film some of the things they did, even with “fake” CG effects. Then again, it could have been the ‘shrooms I ate…

Also, to the guy who recommended Sleeper Cell, the tv show on Showtime. Bought Season 1 and Season 2. Season 1 – awesome. Season 2 – had to turn it off, some strange storylines and halfway through I was terribly confused.

I’m having problems trying to play today’s podcast. Can anyone help? I’ve never had issues until today. The podcast will play for 1-2 seconds and then stop for a few seconds then play for 1-2 seconds and stop over and over and over.

Glad to hear you mention Men of a Certain Age today. I don’t know Buzz, but for some reason whenever I see Scott Bakula on that show, I always think of him.

Also, PLEASE see The Hurt Locker. That movie is fantastic. It’s getting overlooked at all the awards ceremonies, but it’s very deserving.

The Rossington-Collins Band was formed by Gary Rossington and Allen Collins, formerly of Lynyrd Skynyrd. They were together 1979-1982. Don’t Misunderstand Me was their hit, released in 1980. It’s a great song.
