Reading on an LCD screen gets tiring after a while. A Kindle or the Barnes & Noble ‘Nook’ have the eInk displays which are a ton easier to read and have a lot longer battery life. You won’t do any good (fast) web surfing on them, but they’re coming out with apps for the Kindle and the Nook, so it won’t be “just for reading”.

And Apple says they won’t release a “netbook”? That’s exactly what the iPad is. It just doesn’t have a keyboard and fold closed. The system specs are the same semi-powered (not under powered, but not full powered) specs that netbooks have. And you can get netbooks in the $250 range for something similar to the $500 iPad.

The Apple loyalists and early adapters and “style concious” will grab iPads, but there’s better stuff for the money. Just not “prettier stuff” for the money.

I’m not a Microsoft fanboy, but their “Courier” with it’s two touchscreens and folding ‘book’ type layout appeals to me more than the iPad.

Most flight simulators that are FAA approved for training purposes are IFR programs(Instrument Flight Rules). Visually, they are not that appealing as they are mostly using flight instruments and EFIS (electronic flight intrument systems)to practice IFR Vectoring, Approaches, Departures, ILS Landings etc.
